From: Mary Date: January 2002 Title: Summer weekend at Maggie's Author: Mary Rating: G Category: MSR, H (complete sap) Spoilers: None Summary: Imagine the Mulder family, Will included, spending a summer weekend at Maggie Scully's house. Add Charlie Scully as a bonus. Disclaimer: Fox Mulder and Dana Scully belong to CC. Notes: This piece of heaven came to my mind while Sunbathing during a beautiful weekend. I've always wanted To write something like this, completely sap and mushy. As regards Charlie, this is the way I imagine him to be. I hope you like my version of the youngest Scully. Finally, you'll find a one and a half year old William in This story too. Will's antics were ispired by my own Nephews and nieces who are roughly the same age. Believe Me! I know what I'm writing about kids. Enjoy! PS: I loveeeeeeeee feedback! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Outside Maggie Scully's House Saturday 10:00 a.m. It was a beautiful day. Perfect weather for a perfect weekend. The sun was shining bright and the temperature was warm enough for a dive in the pool. Maggie Scully had been bugging her daughter and her family to come over for a weekend and they had finally found a slot in their busy schedule. Of course, she babysat their son quite often but having the whole family home was always like a balm for her soul. Maggie was tiding up the room which was considered now the Mulders' bedroom. She enjoyed doing this for them. It was a constant reminder of their presence in their life, just like Bill's room. Charlie, however, was still living there those months of the year when he was not sailing. She was rearranging Will's toys when she heard her son's voice calling from the hall. "Moooooooom, have you seen my khaki shorts? I can't find them anywhere!" She snickered at her son's eagerness. Whenever he liked a girl, he got like that. He had always been quite shy with women. "Have you tried your closet yet? That's always the only place you don't look." Now she was checking the number of diapers in Will's drawer. "Yes, Mom. Of course I have! Now, Could you help me? Kim's gonna be here any minute!" "Charles, would you calm down? Besides, Kim already has a crush on you. You don't need to impress her, dear." She crossed the hall and winked at him. "Mom, I'm not trying to..." He saw his mother's knowing look. "All right, you win. Now, can you help me?" Maggie opened his closet and almost instantly, with that ability only mothers have, found his pants. "I swear Ma, I didn't see them." "Sure" She said rolling her eyes. At that moment they heard a horn honking. "Relax, that must be your sister. She said she was coming around this time." "I'll be right down." "That's fine. Why don't you finish getting ready, beau?" "Ma!" Charles whined but not seriously. Maggie went downstairs to open the door. She could clearly hear her grandson's voice asking for his TeeTee, his dearest alien stuff doll his father had given him when he was born. Actually, the alien's name was E.T but his one and a half year old voice could not master the correct pronunciation; thus, TeeTee. She opened the door to greet them. "Well, hello there. Who's that big boy in my daughter's arms?" Will just pointed to himself. He had not learnt to say his name yet. "C'mere and give your nana a big kiss." She stretched her arms and took him from Dana. "Hi, Mom." "Hi, dear." "Hi, Maggie." Mulder kissed her and proceeded to take their bags inside. "Is Charlie here yet?" he asked over his shoulder. "Yes, dear. He's getting ready for Kim." She whispered the last part. "Oooooh, good." He answered mischievously. "Mulder, don't tease him." His wife admonished him. "I won't!" He shouted from inside the house although they both knew he would. "Those two..." Dana mused about her husband and her brother. "It never ceases to amaze me how well they get along, even when Mulder is ten years older than Charlie." They entered the house and Will demanded to be put down immediately. As soon as he was released he started to check every nook and cranny of the house with that innate curiosity babies have. "But they egg on each other too much for my liking. I mean, Charlie behaves playfully, almost like a teenager sometimes." "Don't you think it's good for Mulder to behave like that from time to time, specially when he tends to be too serious?" "Maybe you are right, maybe he needs it..." Out of the corner of her eye she saw Will heading for the stairs. "Will, NO! You know you can't climb the stairs by yourself." He was pointing upwards. "Dada." "He'll be down in a minute, sweetheart." "Dada." His lower lip was beginning to quiver. "Will, daddy is upstairs with Uncle Charlie. He'll be down in a minute." She held him up but he went on crying. "Dadaaaaa..." He was almost wailing now. "Honey, does he still get so anxious when one of you is not around?" "I'm afraid so, Mom. He's still too young to understand. I'm going to take him upstairs." "I'll be upstairs in a minute. Oh, honey you're running out of diapers." "Thanks, mom, I'll tell Mulder to go buy some." She practically had to run upstairs to find Mulder and reassure her son his dad had not left. She felt in part responsible for Will's fits of anxiety. She knew they had become too attached to Will but in their eyes they had reason to be; he was their miracle baby. "See, there's dada." Mulder, who was already in search of his son after having heard him cry, took him in his arms and hugged him almost as hard as Will was hugging him back. "Hey, little prince, here's your dada. It's ok, I was just talking to your Uncle Charlie. Remember Uncle Charlie?" Will was hiccuping now but didn't want to raise his eyes out of his father's neck, one of his favorite spots in the world. "Hey big guy, can your Godfather get a kiss from you?" "No! Dada!" The child sniffed. "Hey, don't be rude, Will. Say hi to Charlie." "It's all right, Mulder. But you'll give your Godfather a big kiss and a hug later, won't you?" "LeeLee?" That was Will's name for Charlie. "Oh, no. Here we go again. Could you please call me Charlie, buddy? I'll even give in for Chuck. But, please, don't call me LeeLee." "LeeLee?" Everybody laughed except Charlie, which made Will giggle even more. "You see, he does it on purpose." "Charlie, come down here and give your mother a hand." "Coming, mom!" "Let's get changed! We're going to the pool, Will." The child's angelic face glowed. Will loved the water, he could spend hours swimming with his dad. They were getting in their bedroom when Will shouted. "Bye, LeeLee!" "I heard you monster!" hollered Charlie from the kitchen. "Will, stop it! Now, c'mere. I'm gonna change you. Mulder, can you hand me his swimming trunks?" She scooped her son and lay him on the bed to get his diaper off. "Here, Scullster. Hey buddy, check this." He put Will's trunks on Scully's head as a makeshift hat. "It fits on your tiny head, Scullster. And it matches your eyes too." He put his arms around her waist and started whispering in her ear. "I love your eyes, Scullster." "Mulderrrr..." "I do. They are the most beautiful shade of blue I've ever seen. Well, yours and Willster." They shared a deep kiss which ended when they heard the sound of something coming out in spurts. "Will, drop that! Mulder, watch the floor!" "And there's more on the blanket, dear." He was doing his best not laugh. The little one had found the baby's body milk and had squirted it around as if it were a water pistol. "Mulder, stop laughing and go ask mom for something to clean this mess." "Oh, oh. I feel your Uncle LeeLee is grounded for life." "LeeLee! Tawatol" That was his way of saying water pistol which his Godfather had taught him how to use the last fourth of July, for which Scully was really thankful. "Mulder, today! And YOU should be ashamed." She tried to stay mad at him but it proved impossible whenever her son pouted like his father. Of course, it had proven ineffective with his dad too. "Look what you did to your hair. Oh, well. I guess you are going straight outside to play with water." "TAWA!" The little boy was jumping excitedly at the prospect of doing one of his favorite things. She took his diaper off and put on the trunks instead. Then, she changed his sneakers for some rubber sandals. "OK. You are set." No sooner had she set him on the floor than the baby ran toward his toy chest and proceeded to take out his water toys. "I think that's more than enough, sweety." He was trying to push the chest toward the door. "No, honey. The chest stays here." He raised his nose trying to convey his disapproval but knew better than trying to dissuade his mother. "TeeTee?" "No, TeeTee cannot take baths all the time. You can take it downstairs with you but you don't wet it, ok?" He nodded. Sometimes it amazed his parents how much Will understood. They were very aware that he was smarter than the average kid but still, they were constantly surprised at his development. Will held his mother hand and intended to climb the stairs by himself. "No, Will. You're too little to do it on your own. Mommy's going to hold you up." As stubborn as he was, specially with Mulder and Scully as his parents, he was ready to put up a fight. "Will, do as your mother says!" Mulder was observing him seriously from the bottom of the stairs. It was a rare occurrence to see Mulder serious or angry with his son but for him, his son's security and education was first and foremost just as his wife's love and protection. In spite of being stubborn, Will was obedient and extremely sweet. So he held his arms up and waited till his mom took him downstairs. "That's good, champ. Now, give mommy a kiss and we go swimming!" He gave her a sloppy kiss which she returned and gave one to Mulder who was eagerly waiting with puckered lips. "Bye kids, behave." "Yes, mom." Mulder replied. She decided to head upstairs and clean the mess her son had left in their bedroom. Once done that, she changed herself into her swimsuit and joined her family outside. What she saw made her heart swell. Her husband was half swimming, half walking in the pool holding their son, who was happily showering his dad's head with a watering can. She couldn't avoid laughing at her son's antics. "Hey, baby. Are you making your dad's head grow? Be careful, it could fall off if it grows any bigger." "Are you implying I have a big head, Scully? 'Cause let me tell you..." His son was holding him so hard he felt he was going to choke. "Hey, Will. Let go of your old man's neck, will you?" The kid's strong grasp didn't seem to let up at all. "Hey, baby. No, your dad's head is not going to fall off. It's ok, mommy was just joking." Scully was getting in the pool but if the grimace of her face was any indication, she found the water a bit too cold for her taste. "Hey, Will, look at mommy. She looks like a wet chick, doesn't she?" He walked toward her and stretched his arm. "We are gonna rescue mommy, we are gonna rescue mommy..." He chanted while reaching Scully with one arm around her waist. "Mulder, don't you think the water is a little bit cold for Will?" He started pacing with them on the shallow part of the pool, at least shallow for him. "Hey Will, did you know mommy can't reach the bottom?" "Yeah? And your father's a giraffe." The little boy was looking at his mom and dad as if trying to get what they were saying when, out of the blue, he shouted. "Mommy Poopy!! Poopy!!" He started squirming in his dad's arms. "Hold it, buddy. We're coming out." Mulder was trying to climb the pool ladder with his squirming son when Maggie came out of the house and offered to take him inside. He swam next to Scully again, who was floating around, and hugged her. "Amazing he didn't put up a fight 'cause somebody else other than us was taking him potty." "Yeah, but let's not question our good luck, wife. I'm in the mood to cuddle." "Mmmmmm." They shared a deep and sensuous kiss. "Why did your parents had such a deep pool built?" "Easy. With Charlie, Bill and dad, and even Melissa, being so tall, it was easy for them to reach the bottom. Besides, my brothers love to jump headfirst. Imagine what it'd be like if the pool were not so deep." "Smashing heads." They both laughed. "Let's do some laps before Will gets back." "OK." They did a couple of laps together and were about to do some more when a shout pierced the atmosphere followed by a head of fair hair. "Dada, poopy potty!" The child was clapping at his achievement. "You did it, squirt?" Will nodded from the edge of the pool. "Yes, he did it. He kicked me out of the bathroom first, he wanted some privacy. But he did it." Maggie was beaming proudly at his newly potty trained grandson. "C'mere, son." He instructed his son to step near the edge. "Now, can you show nana how you jump?" his son looked dubious for an instant. "Come on, baby. You know how to. Remember?" His son nodded showing complete trust in his dad, which made Scully smile with pride. The little guy did as his father said and jumped straight into his dad's opened arms. When he saw his mom and nana clap, he did the same. "Now, let's show mommy how you swim. On your tummy, that's it." Will started kicking like a frog. "Wonderful, baby. Go on, come to momma." She held her arms open, ready to receive her son who was splashing for all his worth while his dad helped him with both hands under his tummy. "That's it, Will. Bravo!" Will remained swimming between mom and dad for a while. At around eleven thirty Charles came out with a bag of coal and headed for the barbecue grill. "Baby, I think it's time to reapply more of that sunscreen lotion on Will." "Yeah, I think you are right. Poor guy got cursed with my fair skin." She was already out of the pool and looking for a towel. She took the baby from him and enveloped him in the towel to dry him off. "Scully your skin is even fairer then his. Put some more on you too, will you?" He was still in the pool but watched intently what she was doing. "I will, dad." She sighed. "Dada?" Will stared at him wondering why his daddy was still in the pool. Then, he ran toward his toys that were lying in the shade. "Will, I have to change your wet trunks first. Then you can play with your toys, all right?" Scully was already by his side. "NO!" The little boy was determined to play NOW. "Yes, Will. Now." "Noooo. Mommaaaaa." He was a very smart guy, using his pout whenever it was convenient. "Will, listen to your momma!" His dad shouted from the pool. "Like it or not, here we go." Scully picked him up and took him inside kicking and whining. "Hey, Mulder! He got that from you?" Charlie asked from his spot by the grill. "What do you mean, LeeLee?" Charlie didn't seem to raise to the bait at his new nickname. "I mean the pout." He waggled his eyebrows at his brother-in-law. Mulder, meanwhile, was toweling his hair by the edge of the pool and pretended not to see him getting closer from behind. Ten seconds later he felt Charlie grab his arms and made a move toward the pool. "This is for calling me LeeLee!" Mulder had foreseen his intention and as a trained FBI agent, he tackled Charlie before he could manage to throw him in the pool. But he wasn't counting on his brother- in-law's own training. After all, he was in the navy. Charlie defended himself as best as he could and after a couple of minutes they lost balance and both fell face first into the pool. "Dada!!! Dada!!! Dada!!!" "Will, honey, daddy is OK. He's just playing with Uncle Charlie." Will was oblivious to his mother's explanation. All that mattered to him was his dad who appeared to be drowning. He stood by the edge of the pool crying for his dada. "Dada, out. Dada, all done, out." He wanted his daddy now. "Will, what's up son?" Mulder coughed a little, pushed himself up and jumped out of the pool to hold his son up. "He thought you were drowning." His wife explained trying to soothe her son. "Oh, poor guy. Daddy was just having fun with LeeLee." "LeeLee ba!" "Yes, LeeLee is bad." The baby tried to slap Charlie when he past by him. "Hey!" Scully told him off. "Don't slap him, ok? He was only playing with daddy." At her wife's look of you- better-support-me-here, Mulder considered it wiser to acquiesce lest he wanted to spend the night on the couch. "Yes, baby. Daddy was only playing. Charlie is not bad." "Now, give him a kiss and say you're sorry." She took him from Mulder and got closer to Charlie who was placing the roast beef and chicken on the grill. "Charlie, Will has something to say to you. Will, what do you say?" Will lowered his eyes and rested his head in the hollow of her neck. Looking out of the corner of his eye he said 'Sowy' and blew his uncle a kiss. "That's better." Charlie tickled him and kissed his forehead. All was forgiven and forgotten. Mulder joined the party and started helping Charlie with the barbecue. "Mulder, I'm going inside. I'm going to help mom in the kitchen." She turned round and with Will on her hip, she walked to the kitchen. "Scully, are you going to prepare something?" He was almost sure she had something up her sleeve and it had to do with cooking. "I don't know, Mulder." She gave him one of her enigmatic smiles and left. "You're totally besotted, man." "As if you aren't. And where's Kim, by he way?" "She phoned me a couple of minutes ago. Said she was running late but she's gonna make it here around noon." Their friendly banter went on for some minutes till Mulder decided to pry into his wife's secret. He opened the door of the kitchen that led into the back yard and saw Scully up to her ears cooking a delicious chocolate mousse. Yes! She was doing his and Will's favorite. "God bless you, Scullster! Chocolate mousse, yes!" He put his arms round her middle and kissed her ear. "Mulder, if you want me to finish the mousse you'd better stop doing what you're doing." She practically moaned. "Why?" He whispered. "Because, it's...it's...distracting." She turned round and pecked him on the lips. "Go check if Will is still asleep. I want him to rest at least for an hour before lunch." "Yeah, I know he woke up early today with all the excitement of a slumber 'paty at nana's'" He mimicked his son's tone of voice while his wife giggled. He adored his wife laughter, specially her girly giggle. He couldn't help himself and tasted the delicacy with his forefinger while she was retrieving something from the refrigerator. "Mulder! Don't touch that! You're worse than your son sometimes." She commented trying to remain serious. "Put more chocolate to it, Scull." He added before disappearing from the kitchen. She did the only thing she could do: roll her eyes. It was noon now and Charlie was getting ansty. "Was that the bell?" He asked coming into the kitchen where her sister and mother where putting the finishing touches to the salads. "Son, relax. You're getting me nervous. Besides, she's gonna be here any minute." Just in that moment the bell rang. "That's her. I'll get it!" "Go ahead. No one is gonna stop you, Bro." He rushed out of the room and came back with a young woman who was holding his hand. "Hello, Mrs Scully." "Hello, Kim. How have you been doing?" "Fine, thank you. You must be Dana. Charles has told me a lot about you." "Hi, Kim. It's nice to meet you, finally." Scully approved of his brother's taste. Kim seemed to be the right woman for his brother and her mother seemed to be happy with his son's choice too. Kim was a young woman of about twenty seven years old and was taller than Scully, but not very much. She had a round face with soft features, green eyes and long brown hair which was held up with a scrunchie. She instantly liked her. Suddenly the door to the kitchen opened and the sound of little feet was heard. "Will, what are you doing barefoot? And where's your dad?" In that moment Mulder came into the kitchen carrying Will's sandals and greeted the new arrival. "He didn't let me put them on." "Mulder, you are being manipulated by a one-year old baby? Shame on you." His wife mocked him playfully. "And what's with the new hairstyle?" "I lay by his side on the big bed and fell asleep." He mumbled trying to comb his pillow hair into some normalcy. "Now, watch and learn husband of mine. Will, sit on that chair and let mommy put your shoes on." She instructed her son as sternly as possible but he seemed to enjoy being the center and catching everybody's attention. "I can see who wears the pants in your family, sis." Charlie giggled. His crack made everybody burst out laughing. "All right, that's it! Will, c'mere this instant!" Will was appraising his mom with a mischievous look. Scully sighed, carried him over her shoulder and took him outside where she gave him a lecture on disobedience and its consequences. One hour later lunch was ready. Kim and Scully were setting the table on the grass. They had decided the weather was too nice to eat inside. Hundreds of trips later to fetch things from the kitchen, everything was ready. Maggie was sitting at the head, Kim and Charles were to her left while Mulder and Scully were on her right. Will was sitting in his high chair next to Scully, who was cutting his meat in small pieces. Afterwards, they said a prayer with Scully trying to make her son do the sign of the cross. That raised some coos from the family. "We pray to the guardian angel at night." Scully offered as way of explanation. Half an hour later she was still trying to make some morsels of food reach her mouth without any interruption. "Scully, let me feed him. He hasn't let you taste your food." "It's ok, Mulder. I did manage to eat something." "Scully, you have barely touched your plate. C'me on, let's switch places." He stood up and sat in her wife's previous place while she did exactly the opposite. "Dadaaaa..." His son just grinned at him and offered some chicken from his plate. "C'me on, baby. Don't play with your food. Eat up." He took the baby's spoon and gathered some mashed potatoes. "Open your mouth, Will." "Momma?" "Momma's eating now. Give her a break, ok? She has to eat too, you know?" It was a rare occasion for Will to finish his plate. And this time proved to be no exception. "C'me on Will, one more for daddy." He tried to talk the baby into eating some more but he shook his head resolutely. So he simply put the spoon down and finished his own meal. At mid-afternoon the sun shone too bright and the heat was too strong to be outside. So the family stayed inside enjoying the shelter from the cool interior. Will was taking a nap and Dana had lain down too. Since Will's birth she had tried to establish a rhythm at home and part of that rhythm included scheduled naptimes as it was the only time she had the opportunity to rest during the day. Of course, if Mulder lay spooned behind her as it was the case now, it was much better, although in that case rest was not guaranteed. When Dana woke up, sometime later, she found herself alone in the big bed. Only a rose lay were her husband had previously rested. 'How sweet that husband of mine is!' He was always doing little things like this which made her treasure him even more, if that was possible. When she got up, she noticed Will's eyes following her every move from his crib. "Botty." "You want your bottle?" His only answer was lifting his arms in the familiar gesture of hold-me-up please to which she complied. She walked to the kitchen holding hands with Will, both sniffing the air for the telltale sign of hot cocoa that was wafting through the hall. Mulder was stirring a jar of hot cocoa on the stove when he noticed his two precious beings coming in all rumpled from bed. "Good afternoon, babies. Did you sleep well?" He moved automatically toward them as if guided by a magnetic force. The same force that seemed to glue them together constantly. He kissed his wife on the forehead and picked up his son, who was asking for his 'botty'. "One bottle coming." Mulder opened the refrigerator, took one bottle and put it in the microwave oven while Will waited diligently watching the digital numbers of the oven display. "Hey Scull. I made your favorite: Hot cocoa." He took her steaming cup and placed it in front of her. "Thank you, sweety." She puckered her lips and he stooped to kiss her. "I'll never understand how you can drink that in summertime, Sis." Charlie commented coming in from the back yard, Kim in tow. "I told you, Charlie. I'm a chocoholic." Suddenly the ding of the microwave oven went off just like Will's voice shouting. "Dada, all done. Botty! Dada!" He kept pointing to his food. "All right, little prince, I'm coming." As soon as he took it from the oven, he gave it to his son, who was waiting with open arms. Being attached to his parents as he was, he didn't content himself with eating on his own. He pulled on his mom's hand till she picked him up and deposited him on her lap. Now he was happy. Half an hour later one of their neighbors showed up. Charlie had called Patrick to have some fun with them. The so-called fun included one hour filled with live music played by themselves; Charlie was the guitar player and vocal leader, Patrick played the drums and Kim played the organ and was in charge of the chorus too. Charlie had inherited his talent from Maggie's side. He was the artist of the family. Will was enthralled watching his uncle's preparations. His wide blue eyes followed him everywhere from his place on the grass. "WOW, Charlie! What a great turnout!" His brother-in-law mocked him. "Best audience I´ve ever had: non-judgmental." He stooped to Will´s eye level and asked. "What would His royal audience like to hear?" "Binypea." Charlie looked at Mulder waiting for a translation. "He means Britney Spears. My son seems to have developed a crush on Miss Spears." He raised his eyebrows as if implying 'what can I do?'. "If that´s what His majesty wishes, that He´ll get." The three musicians regrouped and a minute later the chords of `Ooops, I did it again´ could be heard all around with Kim´s voice leading. Will was enjoying every minute of it, dancing and spinning out of control. Before finishing, Kim passed the mike onto him but he got all bashful and only sang a couple of `mmmmmms´ and one `ooops´ by the end of the song. Afterwards came a rendition of The Beatles and The Police accompanied by a selection of jazz and blues melodies chosen for Maggie's taste. "This one's for the Scully women, the future ones too, hopefully." Several sets of eyes, specially Kim's, were widely open at his quasi proposal. Maggie refrained from making any comments to his son who was turning red so she decided to save it for later. Scully, however, had to elbow her husband who was about to make a joke out of Charlie's statement. The sounds of a Spanish ballad flooded the back yard with the youngest Scully leading. "I didn't know you could speak Spanish, Scully." He whispered. "I only know the lyrics of the songs my mom and Ahab used to listen to when we were kids. This happens to be one of them. Do you know what it means?" He shook his head. "She is the only one for him. If she didn't exist, he'd create her." "Wise man." He hugged her tight and went on dancing until he felt a pull on his bare legs. "Uppy." "Wanna dance with mom and dad?" He picked him up and hugged him too. Half an hour later all the instruments had been put away and Scully had gone inside to make Will's supper. Meanwhile, Mulder and Will were engaged in a soccer game or as the little one called it, 'socco'. Although his father had tried to instill in his son his passion for basketball, what Will enjoyed the most was soccer, much to his dad's disappointment. "Come on, son. Kick it this way." The little boy managed to kick the ball between his dad's legs. "That's it, Baby! You score!" "Aaaaarghhhbummm..." The baby wailed. "Whatever you say, son." "Mulder, dinner's ready! Bring him inside!" Scully hollered from the kitchen door. Mulder took him inside and sat him in his high chair. "Are we gonna eat now too?" "Yeah, it's almost done." She put some meat and rice on the baby's plate and poured some juice on his sippy cup. "jus?" "Yes, baby. It's juice. Try not to spill it, ok?" "Will, use you spoon not your fingers." Mulder placed the little spoon between his fingers. After setting the table, they all sat down to eat. This time they put the boy's high chair between their parents'. Will took a piece of meat and offered it to his mom. "No, baby. Thank you. I have mine here." The baby insisted so in the end she had to accept it. Dinner went smoothly until Will demanded to be put down. "Why don't you take him to the sofa and put a video for him to watch?" Maggie suggested. As they were having dinner in the living room, there was no problem checking him. "Let's see if he wants to stay by himself." Mulder deposited him on the sofa and turned on the TV. "What do you wanna watch, son?" "Pooh!" "All right, Pooh it is then." He went back to the table and sat by his wife. "Are you gonna have dessert, honey?" She asked him. "Are you?" "Nah, I'm not hungry." "I wonder when you are." Although she knew he was constantly checking over her health out of love, sometimes she felt he drove himself to extremes. So, she just rolled her eyes and they held one of their usual silent conversations. 'Mulder, stop it. I'm fine.' 'I know you are. I just think you should eat a little bit more, that's all.' 'Mulder, I eat more than enough. Stop worrying!' 'Don't ask me not to. I'll always do it because I love you and you are the most important thing to me.' 'I know. You are mine too.' Maggie was used to this so she didn't pay any attention but Kim was watching the silent exchange intently. "It's amazing. I've never seen anything like it." Kim commented. "It's nothing." Scully answered making a dismissive gesture with her hand. "Does anybody want dessert?" She asked trying to divert the subject of the conversation. All of them, except Scully, had some ice-cream. Apparently Will wasn't enjoying his loneliness; he came back running toward his dad and attached to his leg. "whada?" he pointed to the ice-cream cup his dad was holding. "It's ice-cream, son." His son opened his mouth waiting to receive the delicious treat. "I don't know, Mulder. He was coughing a little today." Scully was already in doctor mode. "Scully, look at those eyes. I'm sorry, I can't say no. I'm weak. You tell him." "So now I become the witch. No buddy, you tell him." Mulder pouted just like his son which made everybody laugh. "I'm sorry, buddy. Mommy's right. No ice-cream for you today. Want some yogurt instead?" "yogu?" "Yes, I know it's not the same." "Nana?" "You want a banana instead of a yogurt?" He nodded and Scully stood up to fetch him his dessert. As soon as they finished the dessert, the women started to clear the table. As they were three people helping, the job was done in less than ten minutes. They all retreated to the living room and after having some coffee, Kim decided it was time to go. "I'm gonna take her home, mom. So don't wait up for me. Remember I have an hour trip to her house. I'll be back in a couple of hours." He kissed his mom and locked the door. Mulder and Scully were sprawled on the sofa, she on top of him, watching TV when they noticed Will had fallen asleep on a cushion that lay haphazardly on the floor. "Like mother like son. Falling asleep anywhere is never a problem for you." That earned him a slap on his forearm. "Take him to bed, will you? I'm going to the kitchen to take an aspirin." "I told you Scullster, too much sun for you." They both got up reluctantly. He kissed her forehead and took his son upstairs where he changed him and put him to bed. "Night, son." "Did you put TeeTee in his crib? I don't want him to wake me up crying for his TeeTee." "Let me get it." He placed the doll round his son's arm and kissed him once more. Then, husband and wife changed into their nightclothes and were lulled into slumber by the gentle sound of their son's breathing. End (Part 1; look for part 2, Sunday) Song Translation You or no one Those hands that take me Through the streets of life That face that makes me Go down on my knees There's only one, only one You or no one That one who's purely honest And deep inside moves you That one that admires you so much That forces you to be a saint There's only one, only one You or no one If you didn't exist, I'd create you Without a doubt You or no one.
